Our purpose in life is not to accumulate and then protect what is impermanent but to strive to have a relationship with what is permanent. We are born into a culture that has its own curriculum. We are raised with certain beliefs that we think are our own and we cling to them and never realize they are not. Once a person realizes that the curriculum they have been participating in is incomplete, they can begin to look for the subtle curriculum of the spiritual life.
Lessons transcend the elements that reveal them. We live within something that we are not conscious of. It reaches down and taps us on the shoulder and shows us the new curriculum if we will listen. A teacher is someone who introduces a student to their own latent understanding. A teacher stirs the student to grab hold of the ideas they are putting forth so that they can begin to have their own relationship with it and eventual understanding. Life itself is a teacher and produces the environment to kindle a person's latent understanding by revealing a different organization, which perfects the soul. Life is trying to help the soul to perfect itself through relationship with what is perfect. This is the celestial curriculum.
There are two different kinds of lessons. The first type, (My Lessons) are the ones I give myself. How can I get what I want? Make more money so people will treat me in a certain way. Make plans so I don't have to live with uncertainty. My lessons set me up against life and everyone in it. The second lessons are (Our Lessons). Do unto others, lay down your life for your brother, don't lie or judge. These lessons are better because they include my world and the higher world. The nature of "Our Lessons" includes compassion and love. It includes what one should live within and should live within them.
The story of the Centurion: he knew Jesus lived in a greater world -- "Just say the word and my servant will be healed". The lessor world lives within the greater one. Nothing exists that isn't within our minds. When thought is active it represents the whole of the mind. It relates to an idea and our minds hold that idea. Mind itself is in relationship with a greater mind. Lessons concerned with our conscience are intended to connect us with the higher mind. What else could teach us?
Like material merges into a union. We live with just thought forms. If we want to understand something we have to be in relationship with it. We may be different than the form but not the life that made the forms. Love already exists. We have inside of ourselves something that can be educated by God. We are created to be a perfect imprint of wisdom. There has to be a union with what is perfect but instead we unite with what we desire.
There is nothing that we can think about and hold in our minds that can't be used as a bridge between ourselves, and the curriculum of a higher life. Bring your heart and mind and wish to understand the whole of you and it for the purpose of allowing it to teach you. The higher must pour itself into the lower that has aligned itself with it. What you want keeps you from what you need. Place yourself where you can receive the celestial curriculum.
