Don't Argue with Life: Use It to Awaken

Guy quoted a passage from the Bible: "For what is a man profiteth if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?" Our thoughts and concerns for ourselves, our plans and schemes and desires, seem to be shoring up our soul and giving us some present/future protection from harm, but this is a lie. We must come to understand the fact that we do not "own" our soul and that all of the fighting for personal and social rights and possessions has gained us nothing. Our love is waxing cold because of this approach to living.... We do not see the wants and the pains of others, and have become calloused and insensitive to all of life around us.

Story: A native man is given a recipe to make a rich, nourishing bread, but decides not to use half of the ingredients because he didn't like those components. He also failed to bake the bread. The resulting batter was a strange and repulsive "goo" that would not feed anyone anything of value. And since he had not baked the ingredients either, the properties inherent in a good loaf of bread could not form through the necessary heat.
And so it is with our lives. We decide not to "stay in the oven" during pressure-filled events or add the event "ingredients" that life brings to us. We avoid whatever we think is not in our best interests. The "recipe" for a complete and whole life is thus never consummated.

We are "life arguers": our resistance to life is based on our thought that we already see what is right and good and true for ourselves. We are the "blind leading the blind."
It is thinking vs. seeing that perpetuates the coldness and insensitivity to all living beings that can be seen throughout the world today. We deplore and exploit our environment, degrade our gamut of relationships, and disgrace our life itself through following the behest of our thoughts and feelings rather than remaining within the place of inner innocence where life can be truly seen and a Higher Will followed.

We must stop arguing with life and awaken to the whole of our world and ourselves. We must let life teach us what it will and be awake and watchful to the truth of every moment we are given.
