No, when it comes to ways in which we are caught and compromised by the "ego" there is no "magic pill" ...as I trust you already know. Ego (personality) isn't a sickness any more than the seed of a flower has something wrong with it because its hard, needs to live underground for the duration of germination, and then becomes the compost for what grows out of it.

The real problem we face is that our lives are generally "out of order"...meaning that when it comes to living in real spiritual light = an unshakable understanding that "goes before us to make the crooked places straight"...our "habit" is to adopt the will of the reaction (in the dark of us) instead of working inwardly to be increasingly watchful of these mechanical reactions themselves

I think we want to be true; we just don't want to see that our present level of self (the egoic nature) doesn't know anything (real) about Truth; it can't...for the Light of Truth, of Love...is not anything that thought can understand -- even though it may possess volumes of information about the same. The more we see the truth of this...the less enthralled we become with ourselves; and, accordingly, the more we are free from the sense of false (incomplete) love we're sure we possess by which, incidentally, we punish ourselves and others for betraying this very fact. In this way, we die to ourselves...the ego performs its (necessary) function and we are freed from the illusion that who and what we are is limited to its tiny domain.
