Find Your Way to the King's Seat of Peace

To accomplish an aim, things have to be in the right order. There is a natural sequence to real change. It is our being that is the ground to make real change. When we were young our priorities were learning how to ride a bike, boys, a job, a car and as we grew our priorities changed to what would bring us happiness and what would further us in this life. Our desires were ultimately to bring ourselves to peace and contentment. But for all the years we have been trying to do this we have never really seen that our endless pursuits for peace have not brought an end to the drive inside of us.

Our ceaseless pursuits come from something inside of us that determines our priorities but doesn't understand our wish for peace. This has to do with a great gulf in time (me and what I hope to be). We have to become participants in saving our own soul. So what are our priorities and who is setting them? Everything about desire is to eventually find peace, happiness, success and love. In order to acquire this peace, we need means, power in order to keep what we find. We believe we have to apply this power to those who try to take away our peace. So we set ourselves against events and others that get in our way. Peace and power are antithetical. The only peace we have is the promise of peace, which isn't peace at all. peace can never come from acquisition or possession. Pursuit of peace puts us in conflict with everything.

Resistance - Aggression - Greed - Selfishness: Resistance -- We are against everything that gets in the way of our obtaining what we think we need to bring us peace. Aggression -- We try and fix or change the people, places and things that get in our way. Greed & Selfishness -- We want to keep everything and get more to protect ourselves.

We need to make a new priority -- to no longer be connected to and serving the self that seeks peace through what it names as being the power of it. Right now our priority is to serve our pain and that is what drives us to pursue our desires. There was a good king that needed to determine which one of his sons would assume the mantle of his kingdom. He asked them a question, "What do you think is the chief obstacle to achieving peace in this kingdom?" The eldest son said it was because his brother didn't know what it took to rule the kingdom. The younger prince said, "I think the chief obstacle is the love of power. It can never produce the peace it promises." The younger prince was chosen by his father to rule and there was a big ball given in his honor. All around him he could see his subject vying for a position, power and stature. He was disgusted and walked alone till he came upon a corridor with a door he never saw before and there sitting in the chamber was his father. The walls were transparent and he could see everything in the kingdom.

We are asked every day, "What is your priority?" What is it in us that has control over us? What leads us from one place to the next getting ready to do what we do? Wander away from the voices that tell you what you need to do to be happy, to have peace in your life. There is a special place one can find when we no longer want power. Our priority has to be to be awake. To have a true change of heart, to find the seat of peace comes when we no longer believe in becoming something. Peace is not gained in acquisition but in the conscious repositioning of oneself.
