Until we can see the pain in our lingering worries, doubts, or disappointments is inseparable from an unseen false belief that gives rise to them, our best solution to this suffering involves trying to imagine something new, or better in which to believe. This approach is a lot like being awakened by a scary sound in the dead of night, pulling the sheets over our head, and then plugging our ears with our fingers... in the false belief that this is the best way to make our fear "go away".

Exercise
Work to see the direct relationship between an unwanted moment and a belief you have that it shouldn't be happening. For example: you aren't supposed to talk to me like that, there is only one way this event is supposed to unfold, I already know everything there is to know about that. Wedge one small bit of understanding into the moment and see if you can identify a dominant belief or set of beliefs that are being revealed. Nothing can change until you see this connection. To understand that resistance is connected to unseen false beliefs takes you out of an indirect relationship where you are pushed around by your thoughts and feelings and places you in direct relationship with life.
