The Unseen Sleight of Hand (Blog)

God, the Truth, and the Light, are unknowable; the sensationalism produced by modern religious traditions is an unseen sleight of hand where the unknowable is substituted by the palpable...and its immediate gratification. This switch, this deception, is virtually undetected because 99% of human beings possess only an imagined spirituality, which is, itself, a secret form of materialism.

These facts don't mean that some people don't have a real need to know the divine, only that these same people have to be fed (as by the fishes and loaves) the level of food they recognize and are attracted to...

Said in another way, because of our present fallen level, most only pretend to be interested in God, but the God they are interested in is the one that will give them the powers (and pleasures) they imagine they need to succeed. It's no different than the (representations of) the very idols that Moses tried to lead the Jews away from in Egypt. Had those who set out for the "promised Land" known how hard the journey would be, few would have left their enslaved lives behind...
