I would like a few helpful insights as to how I should handle (spiritually) my son's divorce. I'm a 66-year-old woman and he may have to live with me for a while. The whole situation is very stressful, and I worry about being able to hold up under it.
Answer:
Try to see that the only thing punishing you (about what is -- at this point -- only a potential problem) is what your own negative imagination is doing to you as it creates scenes of stress and conflict that don't exist.
In fact, a great majority of our unhappiness is the direct by-product of such dark imaginings -- strained expectations that are created in our sleeping mind. First it imagines what it fears... then, not knowing it has made the painful picture it now resists, it tries to protect itself from its own projections!
It is within your power to constantly remind yourself of the following wisdom that you can silently impart to your own (anxious) mind: "Let's wait and see what is to come, and then we will deal with whatever is needed." If you will practice suspending your "self" in this new understanding, you will cease fearing "tomorrow" and your todays will get better and better (including all your relationships unfolding within them).
