At the first sign of a "runaway horse" in you, follow these four steps as you work to remand the appearance of your emotions over to a part of you that knows how to integrate and hold them in your awareness:
Step 1: Grab the reins. Become aware of all your parts instead of letting any one of them command the moment.
Step 2: Watch your mind. Notice how it wants to tell you about what you're feeling in an attempt to shape the moment into something it can control.
Step 3: Consciously suffer the horses. Realize that the problem isn't what your emotions are doing, it's the self that thinks they shouldn't be there and then tries to control them.
Step 4: Hold onto the reins. Remain there observing your feelings and watching as the other parts of you want to jump in to substantiate them. As your parts are gathered back together they will begin to serve a greater purpose.
