When the pain of failing to "prove" ourselves according to some imagined picture we hold of ourselves is relived time and time again, we reach a point where even the suggestion of stepping into a limitation — as called forth by the appearance of some challenge — "reminds" us that it's impossible for us to succeed, so why try? In such moments — so shrouded by the shadow of past defeats are we — having agreed to put on the self that parades around in them, that our ability to remember we are made for these trials — is nowhere to be found.
