We have a nature that thinks about itself -- a nature that weighs itself on a scale that our culture has created and our thoughts have unconsciously adopted. Unexamined, this mind is a virtual torture device, keeping us locked within its own limitations. In the absence of practical thought (the only right capacity of the mind), there is always some painful reaction rising out of the past, or a promised pleasure sure to cycle back to pain again, leaving us feeling negative and wondering, "What's the use?" That presumption is always a lie, because it is not where the path ends; it is where it begins for a new order of timeless self... if we are willing to see the following.
Life naturally floods in, and then floods out. It will expand and be beautiful, and as it moves, it contracts. There will always be the beginning of something, adding to itself, eventually reaching a natural point at which it is fulfilled. Then begins the opposite process. That's what life does!
It is the nature of thought to meet these (necessary) changes in passing time by latching on to whatever confirms a sense of self. The mind identifies with ideas, people, events because it begins to experience the collective conditioned knowledge that's assigned to a person, object, or place, leading us to think we know who we are. We are attached to our imagined view of the world... which creates a sense of limitation and automatic resistance in challenging moments. Our attention doesn't go to the possibility in the moment; it goes to the problem. And then out of that paradigm, the resistance to the problem produces the self that calls upon itself to save itself, and no consolation takes place, no reconciliation occurs. Instead, reincarnation -- an endless cycle of what could be called selfing -- takes place at all levels.
Rather than being limited to the narrow scope of self-referencing attention, we have been created to have an awareness of the universe itself. A body of divine energy with all qualities made us in its image. We are an actual representation of the universe, of all the principles, all the forces, and all the awareness of itself. This awareness enables us to watch everything that passes in time without causing us unhappiness when it changes. We can take in everything that is here, at once, without looking at anything in particular. This is seeing without selfing.
When you see something absolutely beautiful, are you not seeing without selfing? You're not just seeing a sunset; you're drinking in the beauty of the whole of it. This completely different order of self doesn't care that a branch just fell. It doesn't care that this bird came or left. It's not sorry that the colors in the sky faded, because all the movement is part of the beauty of the nature that is seeing itself... and that's what we are working towards.
In those moments where it seems like, "This is it" because you did some self-compromising thing again and you're getting ready to judge and punish yourself, remember yourself. There is nothing to fear in being back at some highly dreaded "square one" in your life if you are willing to let that moment change the you that doesn't want to be there. Come back to yourself and let "square one" be the moment in which you stop insisting on being you and begin to receive what it is that this moment will teach you about you.
Practice seeing without selfing. The experience of that moment in passing time then just dissolves in this beautiful sea of awareness that you are intended to live in. "Square one" is the present moment. This timeless now is the moment in which all things are coming together, all things are growing, all things are dying, and all things are coming again. It is where life comes, touches itself, and you receive and let that touch reveal to you yourself.
Eventually you will realize that there's no difference between what touches you and what's touched. It is a whole understanding of your true nature. It is timeless, it is fearless, and it is the expression of Love. This is what it means to see without selfing. You're deliberately seeing the whole of where you are, because as you see the whole of where you are, you are experiencing the whole of yourself. The work to realize this is the same as the work to realize yourself, because yourself and that Love, that life, that awareness, are one and the same thing.
Most people don't believe what you are about to learn, but that doesn't alter the truth of it. There is an invisible barrier that stands in the way of our happiness. The evidence is all around us. Only the few are willing to see it. And these people succeed where most others fail. What is it that stands in the way between us and the kind of success we've always dreamed of?...
