The more we work to attend to the need of each new moment, the more the conflict of yesterday -- along with its closest friend, called the “fear of tomorrow” -- seems to be miraculously resolved, and then just quietly disappear!

Summary
There isn't an instant in which you and I are not being touched by life for the purpose of life being changed by its own touch. Creation is never not happening. But to take part in it, to be a participant in it, requires that we understand that presently we are meeting life from a mind that is fast asleep in itself because it is intimately connected with desire that imagines a way to resolve itself.
The final resolution to any conflict in our consciousness is its release. Can you see it in your own life? Have you ever been in a crisis? When the crisis was finally resolved, it wasn't by anything that you could think about. The crisis was actually resolved when you realized, "You know what? I don't know what to do! I have to give it up."
But the voice of desire says, "This is terrible, man. You're not supposed to be in a crisis. You're not supposed to go through this stuff. You're better than that!"
And you say, "OK, thanks. What do I do now?"
The mind talking to itself says, "Do this."
"OK, good." And after you go there for 40 years, you say, "It didn't work! I'm still a wreck."
Your mind says, "I know. I knew it before you did it, but I just wasn't sure. Now I know!"
"Oh, thank God. What do I do?"
"Go there."
"That's beautiful. Why didn't I think of that?"
"Hey, I'm here for you."
"Thanks." And you go there.
Three hundred years later, you say (to yourself), "It didn't work!"
"I know... because we weren't ready. But we've learned!"
"Yes, I have. Thank you. Let's do this."
"Yes! because now you know."
"Yes, I do."
And it never ends, does it? It never ends! Why? Because desire itself isn't changed. Therefore, its expression can't be changed, and we are its present expression.
So when finally there is an integration, it isn't a question of this desire going away, but finally it's given its place, and we begin participating in true creation itself instead of becoming the servants of our own creations.
There's an old Cherokee story where a grandfather is talking to his grandson who is concerned because he feels these conflicting forces within him. And the grandfather says something to the effect, "Listen, inside of everyone there are two wolves. One is a 'bad' wolf. It is selfish, self-seeking, angry, violent, full of conflict. The other wolf is love. It is compassionate, it is kind, and it does what is true."
And the young son says to the grandfather, "Well, in this fight between these two wolves, grandfather, which one wins?"
The grandfather says, "The one you feed."
