In nature, hurricanes occur when walls of thunderstorms are driven up the center, producing a vortex -- an "eye" -- where, while everything else is total turmoil in and around it, there is complete silence and stillness in the center.
Our resolve to live a real life, an awakened life, is strengthened when our self-study reveals that at any moment we're not consciously in command of ourselves, a mechanical nature is in charge of us, directing us to look for someone, something to blame for our pain.

Classroom Talk: 7/23/2004 - Closing our eyes to where we may be in the wrong in that moment of any strained relationship does not make what is wrong within us any less of a burden to bear, but it does ensure that wherever we go we will find ourselves "bumping" into others and, for our pride-induced blindness, continuing to blame them for what we have refused to see.
