Student Talks: 1/27/2023 - Key Lesson: As long we find value in being identified with anything, we remain the captive of an unconscious nature that not only never stops longing for what it imagines will make it secure, but that also consents to suffer over its inability to satisfy its own insatiable desire.

The appearance of any disturbance in us produces an unseen desire that creates a solution "in time" -- something to get or someplace to be where I will no longer be disturbed. This cycle can never end until we end our unconscious relationship with the time nature that drives the sense that I will eventually be free when xyz happens. Seeing this is the very freedom we seek.

The principle longing we have as human beings is to be ourselves. But this essential longing is always interfered with by something. Here is the essence of the problem: you can never be yourself and protect yourself at the same time. Why? Personality has two principle functions: procurement, which is getting what I desire, and protection, which involves keeping things away from me that threat...

Persistent painful problems in life are born out of one essential weakness: our inability to direct and keep our attention on what we choose to be in relationship with in the moment.

All acts of impatience serve to secretly deflect the one critical revelation that as long as we meet life with any unseen demand, we can't help but be painfully remanded into the hands of one of these two self-punishing states: anger or frustration. They are the bridesmaids of any desire thwarted.
