Before we release ourselves into the hands of any automatically appearing rescuing agent, we must first take it into the light in order to see who sent it.
Freedom is not overcoming what you think stands in your way. It is understanding that what is in your way is part of the way.
As a rule, the first thing we experience -- whenever we see something negative in us -- is an involuntary negative reaction: we immediately condemn ourselves. But Light never condemns; its nature is to reveal, transform, and release. Which means this mechanical mental activity going on in us -- along with its aching --must be going on for some purpose other than our perfection or protection.
The next time you run into some familiar blockage or begin to feel unsuited to face some new and difficult personal challenge, don't do what you've always done before. Don't try to think your way around it. You no longer want a way around your troubles because what goes around, comes around! What you want is to grow beyond the level of that disturbance. And to do that, you must not act from it.
As we realize that there is no way that painful concern can positively affect any outcome, we drop that concern, and bit by bit, we begin to hear what real life has been trying to tell us all along.

What does it mean to have compassion for others, and how can I develop that in myself? Is forgiveness a necessary part of the equation? Why do I feel let down when I ask for help in doing a task and see that a family member is not concerned with the request? If they were doing the asking, the situation would be different -- that is, they would be upset if I didn't help them! I worry about why...
Here are just ten small places in our lives where we are trying to do the impossible -- struggling to do what cannot (and need not) be done -- and where, because of our misunderstanding, we unknowingly hurt ourselves.
ED: Hello. I'm Dr. Ellen Dickstein. Welcome to a Fireside Chat with bestselling inner life author, Guy Finley. And though we may not yet understand how this works in us, each time we catch a...
