The moment I feel resistance, the moment I feel that contraction inside of me, I must understand that I am being introduced to myself. I've been brought to the bear, to touch the bear! That anger, that rage, that impatience appears in us. You and I know we have these states in us. We can dress up and appear pretty and appear like we're in control of ourselves, but every last human being...
One's fear of seeing himself as being "nothing" in the world does not make him something; nor can this resistance protect him in any meaningful way. To the contrary: The only one who comes to know the lasting contentment of true spiritual fulfillment is that unique person who realizes that the fear of emptiness is itself an empty power.
It only seems to make sense to try and push away unwanted events we'd rather not see until we realize that resistance to anything is negative attraction . . . and that to live with such blindness is to bind us to the very dark moment we would deny.
The real reason people remain captives of unwanted circumstances in their lives is because they've yet to realize this great spiritual secret: Resistance is negative attraction. In other words: the longer we dwell on what we don't want in life, the larger grows that dark dwelling place in which we find ourselves living.
Not wanting events to unfold as they do often feels like a measure of control over unwanted moments, but any negative reaction to reality is only an unseen form of self-punishment and not the rescuing power we mistake it to be. The only thing our resistance to life adds to us is the weight of a self-induced suffering born of a needless worry.

The real reason why it’s futile to resist what life brings to your "door" is because you’ve forgotten that the "house" you dwell within is a "rental" and that the Real Owner has requested whatever is delivered there!...
Resisting any moment that reveals a present limitation is the same as pushing away the lesson we need to illuminate our new possibilities.
Resisting any unwanted character within us not only increases the conflict we feel over it, but it also speeds up any subsequent negative reactions we have to its dark presence. In other words, the more we don't want to feel something the more accelerated becomes our suffering over it!...
Until we realize that the true work of transforming ourselves requires that we transcend our presently confined consciousness, we will continue to resist seeing our own limitations -- looking upon them as something to deny -- instead of approaching them as the secret doorways that they are to our new life beyond all former boundaries.
Part I: When we feel overcome by a life seemingly turned against us, it is vital we understand these moments are not the outcome of some bitter Reality set against us. This suffering that seizes us is born of our resistance to seeing that the present foundation of our self is nothing like we had imagined it to be. Each such glimpse is a Gift of Reality, not Its denial of our hopes; for now we...
