Shop eCoursesI am pregnant and I've already felt the strong precious being inside of me. Especially when I am praying I feel the Spirit in my child. What words of direction can you give to me about being a mother who nurtures and never crushes or hinders a child's awareness of the Truth? I desire for my child to be truly free from the inside out.
I commend you for your wish. Now you must do the hard work of actualizing this right desire. Children, especially those still in the womb, are virtual sponges of all orders of impressions. Every breath drawn in a negative state is a breath blown into that child's lungs. You can figure out the rest, but let me add an important note: The fear that I have fallen or failed my child gives my child not my wish for solid ground, but instead a soiled ground. Just drop the moments in which you find yourself compromised. Stay awake as best you can. The very energy you attract to yourself by your wish to awaken gives your child a kind of "food" that gives them a tremendous head start in developing their essence.
I'm confused about whether or not to help my children learn to be silent and watch their thoughts and feelings. They don't seem at all interested. Should I just leave them alone and practice going quiet myself?
Lead by example. Children not only see better than adults, but they can taste what they see in a way adults have forgotten about. If they "taste" your inner silence, they'll want to be nourished in time by what they have seen.
Is it possible to change my 16 year old son from being angry and negative? He does not take responsibility for his actions; he blames everyone else and tells lies that he believes. He also shows little respect for adults when he thinks they don't respect him. He is getting better, but I really want him to be a light before he graduates high school and goes out in the world.
We cannot change another human being; it is not possible. And, it is not our job to do (thank God). What is our responsibility, and what we can do, is continue to work on inviting the Light into our own life. If we will do this, then the same Living Goodness we have agreed to live by (and within) will see to it that whomever is around us will have the chance to make new choices (because of God's works in our lives). This is the only way we can help those we love --- by increasing the presence of Love in our hearts. This does not mean we pretend to be different. Children see our phoniness and resent us for being a hypocrite. Instead we must embrace what we are given to see within ourselves (for our wish to have a Godly life) and in our willingness to be made new, we become a living example of the Light that changes us. Then, your son, or whomever it may be, has a chance to make a new choice based on seeing its real possibility.
Discovering this new path, I find myself unable to be connected with the Catholic church any longer. All the mechanical things that went along with it I no longer can do. My children wonder at all this and I have no clue as to where to start to tell them why I brought them up in that religion only now to abandon it. I know I have to work this out, but do you have any suggestions?
Children not only respond to real honesty, but they love it and are nourished by it. Why is it that people believe there's some inherent wrongness in admitting (to anyone) that they don't know everything? Tell your children that the True God is a living one and that you are doing the best you can to come alive in His Life. Tell them they can go with you on the journey. That sounds like fun, doesn't it? There is no better teaching than one's willingness to explore God's Life personally and to share this journey with the ones we love.
I am working to make myself a better example and more instructive parent for my children, but I see my old mechanical self already expressing itself in my six year old daughter. I realize that I must always continue to do the work that you have shown me I can do for myself, however, I wonder if there are other ways I can go about teaching my children. You have said to be honest with your children and let the moment show the way. Yet, when I try to explain to my daughter that her worries and fears are just lies, and when I talk with her about turning her will over to her True Self which is one with God, this then causes her to either not believe me or to turn me off. Is this just too complicated for young children to understand no matter how it's presented? I guess that part of the issue is they have to experience what life brings them for themselves to learn these lessons that I resisted for so long. But I continually see the conflict in which my daughter lives, and I observe that for a six year old, she exhibits so many of the symptoms of living in fear and worry over possessions and "what's going to happen tomorrow?" Are there other actions I can take to show her she has everything she needs in every moment that she is given in this life?
Yes, your intuition is mostly correct with regards to your daughter being too young as yet to grasp true principles. She is still mostly just a ball of fragmented emotional states and incomplete ideas. All creatures must mature, and that includes we human beings. So, your approach should be slanted to this understanding. Don't try to teach her particular ideas with regards to the Divine Life, it's specific workings, etc. (things she cannot possibly grasp); instead spend time with her being what you wish for her to understand. In addition to this, read to her truth stories from my writings -- or those that you intuit have special meaning that can be "read" by a heart as young as your daughters. In this way you will begin to steep her mind and heart in the atmosphere of what is True, Bright, and Right -- something that will have an effect in time (as she matures). Be patient with her as well as with your own impatience. There are many such stories that can be found as suggested in Let Go and Live in the Now, and most of my other works. Read a story and then see if she wants to talk about anything in it; if not, then you select something and ask her to think on it with you. I am now working on a new book that will incorporate these principles that I have outlined here to you. However, this book is at least 2 years out.
Any thoughts on what is a good way to share my spiritual work with others, particularly my children?
Be as consciously kind as you can be, which means to not express (but watch instead) your negative states. Be as encouraging as possible without producing false hope. Speak the truth at all times without being cruel or unnecessarily over-correcting. And when asked for what you think is right, dare to speak it in spite of the consequences.
