In this answer to a viewer's question, "letting go" author Guy Finley talks about the difference between observing a particular psychological condition -- such as feeling a lack of energy -- and resisting the condition.

Where is my attention? Guy Finley explains why this is an important question. The resistance I feel when things don't go the way I want them to go isn't resistance to what's happening but to my unseen expectations of how I think things should be. Then my mind connects my attention to my body, and my body literally becomes a mirror of that internal conflict.
In this video, Guy Finley talks about how trying to support an illusion steals our energy, as well as the energy of others. Real life does not drain a person of energy. Allow the moment to reveal the parts of us that are making this futile effort to be something that we imagine we are supposed to be.

Student Talks: 05/01/2026 - Just as the light of a candle can’t be moved by the shadows it casts, so is there within us a Light that can reveal and observe a reaction without being identified with it, let alone be moved by its shape or character.

Remastered Classic Talk: 9/09/15 - We live within a dynamic field of celestial energies whose natural opposition to one another ceaselessly creates what we feel as a "disturbance" within us: moments when primal active forces meet what naturally resists them, giving birth to an order of suffering that's part of the process of creation. It is only in the presence of these higher energies -- at the peak, actually -- that the forces needed for our transfiguration become available; for in our dawning awareness that their supernal struggle is one and the same as our own -- and in our willingness to consciously suffer their Divinely ordained union -- it is no longer "we" who are aware, but rather we are brought into that timeless awareness itself... from out of which these opposing forces have come, and back into which they return.

Remastered Classic Talk: 8/17/16 - Part 1: You can neither control, nor change any anxious thought or emotion that rushes in and sweeps you off of your feet because this "I" -- this sense of yourself suddenly in a struggle to escape a psychological storm -- is itself a part of the squall it now so vigorously resists.
Part 2: Every thought, a blockage. Every emotion, a limitation. Every movement, a hindrance to Thee.

Student Talks: 06/13/2025 - The great universal misperception that secretly drives human conflict – with all of its sorrow and pain – is that the meaning of life is to be found somewhere outside of our own heart and mind.

Remastered Classic Talk: 05/18/16 - It isn't your moment... unless you like doing time; real Life is a single movement. Whatever stirs you is a portion of the dance; whatever you hear is a single line from a verse or song with neither beginning nor end. Even these hints about heaven have already moved along. Creation is unceasing, so don't linger; for whatever seems to be here... isn't.

Student Talks: 05/2/2025 - For us, death – even as we “learn to live” in its fearsome shadow – seems to mark the end of all that we have known; a looming “last show” when the theatre will be closed, and the final curtain drawn. But, there is another kind of death; and it is the end of fear: rebirth realized in the voluntary sacrifice, and concurrent death of the “knower”.
