The perfection of each moment is hidden within its necessity; after all, what is the true nature of any moment revealed in the stream of time other than the ceaseless reconciling of creation to the Divine will that never stops giving it birth.

The divided mind, supported by an ever-shifting false sense of self, creates the moment in time that it doesn’t want and then -- blind to its own creation -- imagines a time to come when it will be free.

So that, all-in-all, this unconscious nature lives, on a daily basis, with the fear of any unwanted moment that seems to threaten the freedom it has imagined! And so, not by accident, it’s always in the throes of some kind of daily drama!

All personal drama is the negative effect of an unconscious mind as it struggles, in vain, to escape the pain of some story it doesn’t realize it’s writing, directing, and starring in.

By and large, most of us hold an unseen, but utterly false belief: the more we feel the need to talk to ourselves about something, the more important it is we do so. But what are we so busy talking to ourselves about in these moments of stress... if not what we must do in order to escape the painful experience of our own stressful reaction?

Have you ever noticed how your mind can talk itself into a dark mood simply by imagining what might go wrong? In that moment, it becomes both the author and the victim of its own story -- projecting pain into a future that exists only in thought, then reacting to that imagined pain as if it were real. This is how the false self sustains itself: it feels what it fears because it believes (in) what it imagines. But as the light of higher awareness sees this unconscious cycle for what it is, the chain is broken and the illusion begins to dissolve. Why? Because each link in the chain of a negative reaction is its weakness, masquerading as a strength.

To see the truth of this understanding is the action that releases you from an unconscious nature that forges its own prison even as it tries, in vain, to escape it.

It often feels as if the unwanted moments in our life are spinning out of control -- but they’re not. It’s we who are being turned round and round by unseen forces, born of an unseen conflict within. This conflict arises whenever the Light of Life reveals something true about us that we’d rather not see. In that instant, what we’ve taken to be ourselves -- our life as we’ve known it -- is exposed for what it is: a dream born of a sleeping mind. And as we see this “self” that clings to its dream is no more real than the dream it struggles to protect, something in us is quietly set free.

Just as we can only move freely in a darkened room when there is light to reveal what surrounds us, so it is with the unseen dimensions within us: in any given moment, we live in a world no larger than the measure of our understanding.

Here's a sure way to tell whether or not our mind is a small one: when we suffer -- again and again -- over the same painful thoughts, comforted by the belief that this time will be the last, it's as if we've caught a thief red-handed in our own house and then believe him when he explains why stealing from us is not only natural, but a good thing.

The proof of a greater, higher mind is only realized in the light of awareness that by grace reveals the limitation of a former, smaller one. There comes a moment when we see how narrow, reactive, and self-protective our thinking has been, even as we're certain of our rightness. That revelation, painful as it may seem, is deliverance from the darkness of a small mind never seen before, let alone realized as the secret source, the unseen source of our pain.

Part 4

When we begin to see the smallness of our own mind -- not condemn it, but see it -- something vast begins to stir. Awareness itself reveals the doorway to a greater, Divine order of mind: a kingdom not found in time or imagination but within the Light of Life, itself. In that light, there's nothing small left to defend.

There is no painful state of psychological resistance to any given moment that isn’t preceded by some form of unseen demand that we have brought with us into that moment.

Life is as it is given. There is nothing more... because there is nothing more than what we are given by Life in every moment of its revelation.

Negative states are never positive; they seem to empower us in times of trial, but in truth they blind us, isolate us, and steal from us our right to see that we are never more powerless than when identified with any form of anxiety, anger, or fear.

If we know it’s impossible to put out a fire by feeding it more wood, how do we fail to see the futility of trying to quiet a mind already burning with thoughts... by adding still more thinking?

It is a celestial Law: whatever we resist, we cannot overcome. But there is a still greater Divine Law that the Light that creates shadows is empowered -- before their time began -- to transform and dispel them.
